SAP GTS Edition for HANA – New Features (Part 1)

The Product Classification function includes compliance classifications such as ECCN or USML, and customs classifications such as Tariff Code/HTS or Commodity/Schedule B.

A new feature, “Decoupling of Numbering Schema and Content,” increases flexibility and reduces the effort required to change the data source. This is achieved by decoupling the relationship between the numbers as the content and their assignment to products.

The Numbering Scheme represents a numbering system used within the product classification function, including compliance classifications such as ECCN or USML, and customs classifications such as Tariff Code/HTS or Commodity/Schedule B.

The Numbering Scheme content consists of underlying classification codes provided by respective government agencies, specifically prepared for SAP GTS.

The new feature of decoupling was implemented in the SAP GTS edition for HANA concerning numbering content and its assignment to products. This decoupling of numbering content and assignments is a positive change in the SAP GTS edition for HANA, offering greater flexibility and streamlined data management for organizations dealing with complex product numbering schemes.

Decoupling these elements offers several benefits, including:

  • The ability to change the data source for numbering content, which requires updating the scheme content, not the entire assignment to products. This can significantly reduce the time and effort involved in migrations.
  • Adding new numbering content does not require extensive reconfiguration of product assignments, making updates more efficient. This increases flexibility and reduces migration efforts.
  • By separating the numbering schema and content, changes won’t impact the underlying product classification, which is critical for the compliance and customs management function within Global Trade.

Steps within customization where for new changes.

1. Defining the Numbering Scheme for Tariff Numbers

2. Define the Numbering scheme content for tariff numbers

You can specify whether data is entered manually into the system or uploaded from a data provider. Data uploaded by a data provider cannot be manually adjusted. If you choose to upload data, select the data provider and assign their external scheme ID.

You can also determine whether the content of the numbering scheme should be time-dependent.

Choose the name of the data provider you have subscribed to from the list.

The content of the numbering scheme is then activated for a specific period within a numbering scheme. Organizations transitioning from a content provider are only required to create new numbering scheme content, which can be assigned to the existing numbering scheme.

To enhance flexibility and minimize the effort required for migration when changing the data source of numbering content, the relationship between the numbers as content and their assignment to products has been made independent.
